What GS1 DataBar is for

GS1 DataBar Expanded is the code for fresh food and small labels: it carries a GTIN plus weight, price or best-before date in far less space than a GS1-128 – and it scans at the checkout.

The sample shows typical scale marking: (01) the GTIN, (3103) net weight in kilograms with three decimals (001250 = 1.250 kg) and (15) the best-before date. The last digit of identifier 310n gives the number of decimals – a detail that is easy to miss.
