What GS1-128 is for

GS1-128 is the barcode on every logistics label: SSCC, GTIN, quantity, batch and dates in a single code. It carries any number of application identifiers in sequence – unlike EAN-13, which holds one number only.

The sample shows a typical pallet label: (00) the serial shipping container code, (02) the contained GTIN and (37) the unit count. Check digits of SSCC and GTIN are recalculated before generating – a transposed digit shows up here, not at goods-in.
